I’ve tried a few and they work but they arent playable on dvd players, only on the computer. Is this because of the type of video they are? is there a program i can get that will convert them so i will be able to play them on dvd players, and once they are converted will i be able to burn them with the program i already have?

For videos to play on a DVD player you need to convert the program to the DVD format which is DVD. Download CONVERTXTODVD3, that automatically converts the video for you to DVD, and then automatically burns it to a DVD.
For this you need a DVD burner, the cd’s are supposed to be DVD-R, or DVD-RW, any of them.
Good luck

Is DVD Ripping Legal?

Is DVD Ripping software, like "DVD Decrypter," legal to own and use if I only use it for ripping personally made content off of personally made DVD’s?

I have some school projects of mine that I’d like to back up on my PC, but I’m worried that merely downloading the software required might be illegal since I’ve been told it’s illegal for companies to make or distribute such software due to copyright laws. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and thank you for your time.

I recommend you Aiseesoft DVD Ripper.

It could easily rip DVD to MP4, H.264, AVI, MP3, WMV, WMA, FLV, MKV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, 3GP, 3GPP, VOB, DivX, Mov, RM, RMVB, M4A, AAC, WAV, etc. with super fast DVD ripping speed and excellent image and sound quality.

It also can edit the DVD movies, such as trim a video clip, crop the movie, merge several titles or chapters into one file and so on.

Hope can help you!

Right now, I’m using a friend’s laptop and I need to know how to check dvd compatibility. I want to burn a few DVD‘s, but I need to make sure that his dvd burner is compatible with either +/-. How do I check for dvd compatibility? Is there a program that I can download in order to check the compatibility of certain media formats?

i think you need to look at the drive itself, it shall be written on the drive, like under the brand, right?

I was wondering before i buy an Ipod Touch, is it legal to copy dvd’s that i fully own to an Ipod Touch for personal use and to not put on websites or re-sell it.

Thanks for your time (as i don’t want to break the law and you know how bad that is?)
I appreciate all of the opinions but i already have a DVD ripper program i just wanted to know if it is legal or not.

Once again, thanks for your opinions.

It’s legal.
I recommend you mediavideoconverter ipod transfer. It’s a professional ipod manager tool.It can rip and copy music, videos, photos, podcasts from iPod to PC and PC to iPod,also supports iPod to iTunes transfer freely.Just give it a shot.

I have a toshiba satellite laptop and it has a writable dvd on it. How do I make a dvd that is readable on a dvd player? I’ve never done it before, only made music cds. Is it the same? I have different home videos I’d like to put on a dvd along with movies saved on my computer.

There is an easy way can help you, you should use RZ DVD Creator, it can create standard home DVD, it can convert and burn any videos to DVD(DVD+R,DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-DL, DVD+DL, etc), such as avi to DVD, etc.

Work well, easy to use, inexpensive, i like it, and i believe that once you try it, you will like it too.

Following is a step by step guide:

Hope it can help you.

In Australia, is it legal for me to backup the contents of DVD‘s which I have bought, to the Hard Drive of my computer? Also how many backups can I have? Say like an extra copy on my PlayStation 3 HDD for playback on my TV.

copy right laws are for selling not copying for your own use…

There is DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW and to add to my confusion, DVD-ROM!!!

DVD-R is a write-once recordable format which allows excellent compatibility with both standalone DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. There are two main types of DVD-R discs: DVD-R for General Use and DVD-R for Authoring.
DVD-RW media uses rewriteable discs which are rated for more than 1000 rewrites in ideal situations.
+RW, like DVD-RW, is a rewriteable 4.7 GB format, and overall it has similar functionality to DVD-RW. One potential future advantage of the +RW format is the optional Mount Rainier drag-and-drop file access support (also known as +MRW) planned for future versions of Windows. However, current drives do not support Mount Rainier on +RW. The level of compatibility of +RW discs in standalone DVD players is similar to that of DVD-RW. The rewritability of +RW is also said to be similar to that of DVD-RW.
DVD-RAM is a format originally aimed primarily as a data solution, but it is now becoming popular as a video format used by some brands of standalone (non-PC) DVD recorders. Early PC-based DVD-RAM recorders used 2.6 GB discs (or double-sided 5.2 GB discs), but current drives also use 4.7 GB discs (or double-sided 9.4 GB discs). DVD-RAM discs are traditionally housed within cartridges which cannot be opened, so that the media is well-protected. Newer Type II and Type IV cartridges can be opened however, an important feature for those who wish to read these discs in DVD-RAM compatible DVD-ROM drives or standalone DVD players. In addition, some DVD-RAM discs are now sold without cartridges.

I know there all kinds of crazy copyright laws and all kinds of crazy exceptions. All I want to know is, is ripping DVD‘s to a hard drive legal? I would think it is, as long as you’re not burning them to DVD’s and selling them, or anything. I just want a few on my HD. Thanks.

you are absolutely right. you can rip them onto your hard drive. You can even make a copy for your own use. It is illegal to make copies and sell them or give them away. And you can not copy disks or rip them onto your hard drive if you didn’t pay forthem .
